This sermon proclaims the wonderful truth that scripture (66 books of the bible) is entirely sufficient and unique in equipping us for life.
These verses in 2 Timothy show us three reasons that scripture is unique in its sufficiency. Firstly, scripture is sacred and holy meaning its writings are set apart from all other writings. Secondly, scripture is God breathed. It is written physically by human hands but the ultimate source of the words is from God himself. Thirdly, scripture is more wonderful and reliable than human teachers. The quality of scripture is representative of the one who authored it, a perfect, set apart God, who is without error.
Scripture makes us wise for salvation through faith in Christ. This wisdom can come directly from reading the scriptures. It can also come indirectly, by hearing the truth of scripture spoken in a sermon, by a friend, or as received in a vision. Whatever the route, the scriptures alone present us with the wisdom necessary for salvation.
Scripture equips Christian’s for every good work. By spending time in scripture Christian’s are taught about God, rebuked when we aren’t living like Christian’s, corrected when we need guidance to walk the righteous path, and trained to be more like Christ in every aspect of life.
Lord, help us to treasure and hunger for your precious words found in scripture.
