Our Story

Our Story So Far

Christ Church Fareham was planted out of ChristCentral Church in Portsmouth. We launched in September 2018.

Before that a small group had been travelling to Portsmouth every Sunday for Church and meeting in Fareham during the week in Chris & Gemma Lyon’s home, hoping, praying and believing in God for a new Church in Fareham. We received a number of prophetic words about the kind of Church we would start. You can read some of them here.

In July 2016, Duncan and Rachael, sensing a call from God “How God called me to Fareham “, moved to Fareham to bring leadership and vision to the group. Our goal was to plant a Bible-believing, Gospel-proclaiming and Spirit-filled Church to reach the people of Fareham and the surrounding regions with the good news of Jesus Christ!

In September 2018, we launched with a small team of 9 adults and 5 children, beginning with a Sunday afternoon service. We were completely reliant on God to work and He brought new people to us.

We publicized the launch of the Church with a Hog Roast in Fareham Town Centre. We fed over 200 people with a free hog roast. There were cupcakes, balloons and face paints and we handed out plenty of flyers inviting people to our first ever Sunday meeting.

At the beginning of 2019, we moved to a Sunday morning service at the Orchard Lea Junior School. We’ve had lots of visitors, including many who have never been to Church before and we’ve seen people respond to the message of Jesus. God has shown His power and faithfulness in our midst.

On 5th September 2021, we appointed our first ever Eldership Team. Dayo Adeyemo, Jason Manning, Jeff Moss and Duncan Sills were appointed to oversee and lead the spiritual life of the Church. Chris Kilby, an apostolic representative from Commission laid on hands and prayed for each of them and their wives. This was a fantastic moment of celebration for us, as we grew up from a church plant into an established local church with a Biblical leadership structure.

At present there are not enough of us to do everything we would like to. But what we can do we want to do as well as is possible. So, if you are thinking, do they need me? You bet we do! Come and join us and play a part in building an amazing Church for God’s purposes and glory.

After a while and once you feel comfortable amongst us we will invite you to consider becoming a Church member. We have a short course when we chat through with you some of our key beliefs, how the church is structured and how we hope to work out our purposes. It’s an informal time when you can ask any questions you may have.
