The Resurrected Christ | Acts 1 | Church Weekend Away

This sermon focuses on the resurrected Christ’s priorities as communicated to his disciples in Acts 1.

Firstly, Jesus prioritised appearing to and revealing himself to his disciples. He knew they were in a troubled state of doubt and wanted them to be completely assured that Jesus is alive. For once this had taken place they could get on with being effective for God. Jesus is still meeting with his people for this purpose today.

Secondly, Jesus emphasised the importance of the Kingdom of God. He made clear that God is restoring his creation, reigning in, through, and out of the Church. The Kingdom of God covers the whole earth and goes way beyond our local church/town/village/city.

Finally, Jesus instructed the disciples to wait to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. For, they and we cannot fulfil taking God’s message to the ends of the earth without the power of God living in us. The disciples waited actively seeking God in prayer and we should too.

Lord, help us to be stirred by your key messages communicated to your disciples which are still important for us today, that we might take your gloriously good news to the ends of the earth.
