This sermon drawing upon the example of Paul encourages Christians to live Spirit-filled lives of boldness for God.
Firstly, we see Paul’s Spirit-filled life leads to suffering and miracles. Paul suffers imprisonment, shipwreck, and by being bitten by a snake. Yet, in this context of suffering he sees the miraculous work of God. The snakes bite has no impact on his health.
Secondly, we see in this chapter Paul’s boldness led him to receive astonishing hospitality from his hosts. They welcome him in as a prisoner providing him with a home and shelter. It is in this context that Paul offers to pray for the sick of his hosts and as he does God’s healing power is displayed.
Thirdly, Paul’s life is one of courage received by his gathering with other believers whilst under house arrest. His life is also one of boldness where he continues proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ whilst imprisoned and facing death.
Fourthly, we see in this chapter Paul’s life means he is both rejected and fruitful. Some of the hearers refuse to believe Paul’s teaching and leave. Whilst some of the hearers do believe and then bring others to hear Paul’s teaching about Jesus.
Finally, we see Paul’s life is all about Jesus and the Kingdom of God. This is the message Paul gives his life to proclaiming to everyone who will hear. Paul does this that God might be glorified.
Lord, help us to live Spirit-filled lives in greater boldness that you might be glorified.
