Finishing Well | Philippians 3:1-14

This sermon encourages Christian’s to press on and finish their earthly races well.

Paul, writing in this chapter is in prison with an uncertain future and without the comfort of friends. Yet, he is full of joy, and pursues pressing on in God making sure he finishes his earthly race well.

He can do this because he fixes his gaze on Jesus Christ. Jesus is the greatest joy and treasure in his life. Therefore, Paul gives himself to pursuing Jesus and prioritising knowing him more. He counts everything else in life as rubbish and takes his focus away from it.

Paul also did not let his murderous past hinder his future. He was certain of God’s love and forgiveness lavished upon him. So, he could enjoy everyday journeying with Christ, pressing on looking ahead to his glorious eternal future.

Lord, help us to press on in our earthly races, fixing our gaze on you and putting aside everything that might throw us off course.

*Apologies, due to some technical difficulties not all of the sermon was recorded this week.
