Good News Messengers | Mark 1:2-5

This sermon reminds us that part of Gods eternal plan for sharing the glorious good news embodied within Jesus, with people, involves using his followers as messengers.

In these verses we see this has always been part of God’s plan. God used his followers Malachi and Isaiah as messengers to declare that the Saviour King Jesus was coming. Their messages also included news that the coming of Jesus would be preceded by another unique messenger. These verses show that this unique messenger is unmistakeably John the Baptist.

The message of John was as the prophets foretold one pleading with anyone that would listen to prepare the way for the coming Saviour King Jesus. This was a call for a preparatory work of the heart to enable people to enjoy relationship with Jesus. Within this simple yet profound message people were called to confess and repent of their sins. In doing so, receiving the free gift of forgiveness of sins, removing all obstacles from allowing Jesus to enter their hearts.

We know that the Saviour King Jesus will make a second and final journey. Therefore, there is a vital role for all of Gods followers to continue being messengers for him. We can all share this glorious good news with the people we have been intentionally placed with by imitating John’s simple yet profound message.

Lord, help us to overcome obstacles that prevent us from being messengers for you, and give us boldness & freedom as we speak to those around us.
