God’s Warning Song | Deuteronomy 32

This sermon reflects on God’s song of warning spoken through Moses to all of humanity.

This song begins with a proclamation of the names of the Lord. God is proclaimed as the immoveable steadfast rock, the perfect upright one, and the perfectly faithful one.

The song then moves on to contrast this unrivalled greatness of God with the unfaithfulness, corruption, and evil of humanity. The people of God are described as becoming fat on the good gifts of God, yet becoming unmindful of the glorious one that gave them these good gifts. They have also kicked out and scoffed at God.

Therefore, it is no surprise the song then turns to judgement. God being perfectly upright hates sin and must punish all evil. Yet, even in the midst of this sobering and fair judgement of wrong doing there is hope for all who receive and believe in Jesus.

Lord, help us to be mindful of you at all times, and thank you for saving us from deserved judgement through Jesus.
