Jesus’ crucifixion was not just about the physical agony of dying on the cross. As Matthew describes the Easter story, he shows that Jesus suffered in many ways on the road to Calvary. He was deserted by his friends, betrayed and denied. He was found to be innocent and yet suffered huge injustice. He was mocked, treated like a fool. He carried the sins of the world upon his shoulders, suffered the spiritual pain of God the Father forsaking him upon the cross. He endured all this because he loves us.
On the Third day he rose again in glory, defeating death, offering us all forgiveness for our sins and eternal life!
