Update: Week 2

Our second Sunday had a very different feel to the first, but was equally good and encouraging for us at Christ Church Fareham. We had 26 people at the service, we put on kids work for the very first time, we had two new visitors from Fareham, as well as connecting with a lady at the front who said she’d come back next week with her husband.

I preached from Acts 2:42-47 and talked about Devotion to Christ and 8 Marks of Christ Church Fareham, established from the example of the early church in Jerusalem. Here they are:

1. Devotion to the Apostles’ Teaching (God’s word in the Bible)
2. Devotion to Fellowship
3. Devotion to Breaking Bread (eating together and taking Communion)
4. Devotion to Prayer
5. Experiencing Signs, Wonders & Miracles
6. Radical Generosity and Sharing of Possessions
7. Praising God
8. Finding Favour with all the People

This is what we aspire to be as a church. Consequently I challenged everyone there to confess sin and ask for the Holy Spirit’s help in one area where they felt weak. And I invited members of the Church to recognize where they were strong and commit to bringing leadership in that area, so that the whole church can learn from their example.
We also recognised on Sunday that church life like this flows from the Gospel of Grace that Peter preaches at the Day of Pentecost. This is my hope and prayer, that Christ Church Fareham would be devoted to Christ and show these 8 marks in everything we do.
