Christ Church Fareham make the local press!
We’re very thankful to Portsmouth News for publicising the launch of Christ Church Fareham with a local news article, available online and in print (https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/group-launches-new-church-to-spread-joy-in-fareham-1-8617094).
I must admit being interviewed and seeing the finished article was a fascinating process. I love the title – Group launches new church to spread joy – but I believe every reference to Jesus or the Bible in my interview was removed. I wonder whether that was a deliberate decision.
I was asked a whole host of questions including “Does Fareham need a new church?” and “How many kids do you have?”, but my favourite question was “Why is it important in this day and age to attend church and follow religion?”
Here was my response in full:
It’s only important to go to Church in this day and age if Christianity is true, if Jesus Christ really did live, die on the cross and rise from the dead, as the Bible says he did. If Jesus rose from the dead, that confirms that he was who he said he was – the Son of God – and everything he said must be true. Jesus taught that through his death, we can receive forgiveness from God for the things we’ve done wrong. Because he rose from the dead, we too can receive eternal life. And, perhaps most importantly, we can know God and have a relationship with the one who created the universe. That’s why we go to Church, because together at church we can celebrate, enjoy and experience the presence of God. We will preach the Bible in Christ Church Fareham because we believe it’s true.
Here’s what made it into the article:
“That’s why we go to Church, because together at church we can celebrate, enjoy and experience the presence of God. Having said that, churches also give people a wonderful community, support network and friendships across generations.”
Interesting to see what they removed, although my response probably was a bit too lengthy for a news article.
Anyway, we hope and pray the article will bring us a few additional guests! Thanks again to Portsmouth News!
